No, it is not necessary to have a GP referral to book in with us.
However, if you would like to access medicare rebates under the Better Access initiative, you will need a GP-issued Mental Health Care Plan. This will apply to 10 sessions.

Yes, we can arrange to meet via telehealth. Provided you have a stable internet connection, we can telehealth with you from anywhere in Australia.

At Joy Psychology, we charge $250 for a 50 minute therapy session with an extra $25 fee for out of hours appointments.
The Australian Psychological Association (APS) recommends a session cost of $318.
If you are eligible and obtain a GP-issued Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare will provide a rebate for 10 sessions with a rebate of $98.95 per session.
We value accessibility to psychological care for our community. If you are experiencing financial hardship, we would encourage you to still enquire with us and discuss your circumstances. Where possible, we will try to make accomodations.

You may be eligible for reimbursement through your private health insurer, but please contact them to clarify your coverage.
We do not process your private health claims for you. We will issue you a receipt that you can use when you claim.

We understand unforeseeable things can occur in your day or that illness can change your availability for your appointment.
Where possible, we ask that you please provide 24 hours notice of needing to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
In the event of illness, we can change your appointment to a telehealth or reschedule.
The full terms of our cancellation policy are discussed prior to starting therapy.

As a private clinic, we do not offer bulk billing.

We accept both children and adults for therapy.
Minors who demonstrate autonomy may choose to have a parent/guardian present or absent from the session.
For children younger than 6 years, we suggest having a conversation with us first about the circumstances and goals for therapy, as a play-based behaviour therapist may also be a suitable direction for your child’s goals.

Yes, but please note that the therapy session does not cover anyone else, including other individuals, couples or group therapy.

Every person’s journey is different and each individual will need a tailored approach.
We are committed to helping you and will be transparent about where we see your therapy going and the work and time needed to get there.
We will also help you keep track and appropriately space out your appointments for those utilising a Mental Health Care Plan.

We can do NDIS billing for participants where psychological services funding has been approved.
Where not approved, NDIS participants are still welcome to work with us and we encourage you to explore your eligibility for a mental health care plan through your GP.
